Winter 2027 Issue: Absence

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

For the next issue of Apofenie, we are interested in writing that approaches absence as more than a subject. What happens when absence becomes a form? What does a text look like when it is organized around a silence, a gap, a disappearance, an omission, an unanswered question? Can something be present precisely because it is missing?

We invite work concerned with the spaces between presence and absence: grief, longing, estrangement, displacement, silence, erasure, memory, ghosts, abandoned places, missing people in our lives, lost languages, unrealized futures, vanished worlds, and things that were never there to begin with.

We are equally interested in the absences produced by language itself: what cannot be translated, what cannot be said, what remains outside the frame of a photograph or narrative, what a story deliberately withholds, and what a reader is forced to imagine in the gap.
